Each year, our immune system helps fight off disease and other illnesses. But as we grow older, our immune system changes and isn’t as strong as it used to be. One of the causes of this can be because our body’s natural defense is weaker as we get older.

Our immune system is responsible for protecting us against various diseases. And it’s true, we need a strong, healthy and active immune system in order to live our life without any health concerns. But the question remains: how to reset our immune system?

Since I mentioned computers earlier, we can refer to the following part as a solution on how to reboot your immune system.

We all know that feeling when you’ve been on the go for too long and your body is just like, “Nope,” and gives up on you. But instead of giving in to exhaustion and going to bed at 8:30 p.m., you can reset your immune system!

It might not be easy, but it’s definitely worth it. The best thing about resetting your immune system? It’ll boost your energy level for longer than a nap would! So, if you’re coming down with the sniffles or just feel like you need a boost, try these tips and tricks on how to reset your immune system fast.

Exercise Regularly

One of the best answers to the question “How can you reset your immune system” isn’t found in food or drugstores. It’s adding exercise to your daily routine. Exercise is a great way to reset your immunity, and the best part is that you have the power to do it on your own. 

You don’t need special gear or equipment, and if you exercise outdoors you can also get some fresh air and vitamin D from the sun! Getting at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise every day will help boost your immune system by spreading infection-fighting cells and proteins throughout your body. Just be sure you’re getting enough sleep, too—at least 7 hours a night is recommended for adults.

Drink Plenty of Water

You know, in spite of all the medical advances we’ve made as a society, there are still plenty of things we don’t understand about our bodies.

One of those things is: why are some people susceptible to colds and flus while others never seem to get sick? Well, I’ve done some research, and it’s possible that the answer has something to do with the way you treat your body. It’s not that you’re doing anything wrong—but maybe there are some ways you could be doing something better? 

For example: did you know that drinking plenty of water is a great way to reboot or reset your immune system? Even if you have allergies or a chronic illness, staying hydrated can help your body fight off germs.

In fact, this simple change can make a HUGE difference in your overall health. Water has been shown to cleanse toxins from the body, reducing inflammation and helping to flush the digestive system. It’s recommended that you drink around eight glasses of water a day.

Don’t Smoke

We’re all familiar with the idea that it’s good to “detox” every once in a while—whether it’s going on a juice cleanse, doing a full-body sweat in the sauna, or just letting your stomach rest from solid food for a day or two. But did you know that not smoking—or even better, avoiding cigarettes altogether—can help you detox?

That’s right: if you want to reboot your immune system and give your insides a bit of a reset, one of the best things you can do is stop smoking. Smoking damages your body in so many ways, but one of the most insidious is its effect on your immune system. 

When your body doesn’t have to focus all of its energy on fighting off the toxins introduced by cigarettes, it can use that energy to work through all the other icky stuff that might be hanging out in there.

Limit the Alcohol Intake

If you’re looking for a way to reboot your health, limiting your alcohol intake is a great way to support immune system health. We all like a little bit of alcohol now and then—and it’s certainly not the worst thing in the world (fine wine, anyone?).

Limiting your alcohol intake is a great way to reboot or reset your immune system, and your liver. When you drink, your body expends a lot of resources breaking down the alcohol. 

The rest of its processes are put on hold, which means that it can’t focus on other important functions, like fighting off infections. If you’ve been doing some heavy drinking lately and feel like you’re getting sick a lot more than usual, it might be time to give it a break. Take a few days or weeks off from alcohol and see if you notice the difference.

Eat a Healthy Diet (Fruits and Vegetables)

Are you feeling run down, like your immune system has been on strike for a while? Maybe you’re getting sick more often than normal, or maybe you’re just tired all the time. If that’s the case, it’s time to reboot your immune system. Your immune system needs certain nutrients and vitamins to function at its best. 

So eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is an easy way to give your immune system what it needs to get back on track. Getting enough of specific vitamins and minerals can also help your immune system work at full capacity and ensure that all of your systems are functioning as intended. So make sure you’re getting enough of the essential vitamins: A, B, and C.

Your immune system is always working behind the scenes to keep you safe and healthy—it’s OK to give it a little help. And that’s where NAD+ vitamins come in.

NAD+ stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, which may sound like something totally foreign, but its origins are actually rooted in something you’ve probably heard of: vitamin B3, or niacin. For example, when you’re overweight, it’s more difficult for your body to properly absorb vitamins and minerals from food, so you may be at higher risk for nutrient deficiencies. And eating too many calories or too much of certain foods can interfere with how well your body uses insulin, which could lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

And type 2 diabetes makes managing your blood sugar levels more difficult, which means your immune system may not be functioning at its best ability. So what does this mean for you? No matter what path you take to lose weight and get to a healthy BMI (body mass index), the effect on your health will be good; especially since the healthier the foods you eat are, the better they will help maintain a healthy weight while nourishing your body.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is crucial for maintaining the health of your immune system, and it’s especially important when you’re fighting an infection. When you sleep, your body produces proteins called cytokines that help increase inflammation in your body—and inflammation is what helps your body kill off infections in the first place.

That’s why I recommend getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night to make sure your immune system is functioning at its best and can fight off any viruses or bacteria that come its way.

Minimize Stress

When you take care of yourself physically, your body is able to fight off illness and recover more quickly from infections. When you take care of yourself emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, your body does a much better job at staying healthy. 

It’s all about rebooting so that you can get back to your best self. Minimizing stress is a great way to reboot or reset your immune system. Take some time to relax and decompress, whether it’s taking a walk outside, listening to calming music, or even just meditating for 5 minutes. Your body will thank you!

Protect From Viruses and Infections

If your immune system is just feeling blah, the best thing you can do to get it back on track is to prevent any germs from getting into your body in the first place. That means washing your hands frequently, staying away from people who are sick as much as possible, and keeping surfaces clean—especially if you’re preparing food.

Fasting for as little as 3 days can regenerate and reset the entire immune system. It’s like giving your body a fresh start. When you do this, your body has the ability to let go of old cells and can create new ones.

This new study shows that fasting “flips a regenerative switch” in the body. This switch starts a process which leads to stem cells creating brand new white blood cells, which are basically the “soldiers” within our bodies that fight off disease. This process helps to reduce inflammation and protect against disease, such as cancer.

If this wasn’t enough proof that fasting is good for us, it also was shown to reduce risk factors for aging, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Now there is a reason I’m saying this study is important: scientists were able to identify how fasting can help our bodies better protect themselves from disease, which means we might be able to create drugs that give us many of the same benefits!
