How Is HPV Diagnosed?
There are two different ways to diagnose HPV:
1. Through the appearance of genital warts. Genital warts can be diagnosed through observation by a doctor or other medical practitioner, but it is important to keep in mind that not all patients with HPV will have genital warts.
2. Through a test for HPV. If you don’t have any signs of genital warts, but you suspect you may have HPV, your doctor can give you a test to check for it. The test looks for the presence of HPV viral DNA in your cells, and can be performed alone or as part of an annual Pap test.
